Beach Reading

Reading a book on the beach or on a nice summer day is a great way to pass the time. Many people are in agreement that when they read a book on the beach they want a book that is fun and light hearted and not too complicated. There are many new books coming out this summer, but the hottest book seems to be, The Perfume Collector by Kathleen Tessaro. This book was on a multitude of “top beach reads for 2013” lists. The Perfume Collector is a story of a woman in London who obtains inheritance that brings her back to own a perfume shop in Paris. The story goes back in time to the 1920s there her life adventure just began. This book seems like it would be a really interesting read and would be a great escape on a summer day.

Going through the list of books that I have read, I have few suggestions for those who are looking for a great read this summer (or anytime!)

My first recommendation is Little Bee by Chris Cleave. I read Little Bee last summer and I fell in love with the book! It is a tantalizing story of young woman from Nigeria who seeks refuge in England. The story is fiction but is based upon events that occur every day around the world. Containing a heartfelt story that creates a rollercoaster of emotions, Little Bee is too amazing to miss out on!
My second recommendation is Water For Elephants By Sara Gruen. Water for Elephants is a popular novel told by a man named Jacob Jankowski. Jacob is a nursing home and reminisces on the fast paced life he had when he was 23 and in the circus. Trouble and love intertwine in this novel and they make for an exciting story that you will never forget!
There are many great books out there to read this summer, just find the one that works for you!

Sweet Venom

As Poison Berry's sidekick, Sweet Venom keeps her in check. A sassy yet loyal friend, Sweet Venom aids Poison Berry in the adventure of life. Their adventures are guided though reading and opening their minds to tantalizing journeys. They both share a common interest in helping young minds to flourish into the botanical gardens that they can be. Sweet Venom is described as being a Prezi mastermind. She is able to use her creative skills to cajole readers into reading books that she enjoys thoroughly.

Just like Poison Berry, Sweet Venom is friend of mine. They fight off the hordes of people that don’t know how to have a good time and conquer the task of spreading cheer. Sweet Venom is also known as Madeline, the little French girl that went to boarding school. Well, not really, but she's pretty similar! Sweet Venom has been on the journey of English class with me for quite some time. We share many book interests including: Silver Linings Playbook, Number One Lady’s Detective Agency, World War Z, Prep, Looking for Alaska, and many more!

Looking back at the book that we read together for the adventure genre, World War Z, Sweet Venom would have the drive and hope of the characters in the book and try to stay alive. Hope was a major theme in the book and Sweet Venom has the ability to be optimistic and brave in the face of danger. Through reading this book we had many conversations as to what we would do in the case of the zombie apocalypse and came to an agreement that we would want to keep our family safe but also help others in need. Sweet Venom and Poison Berry describe themselves as sour patch kids. First they’re sour, and then they’re sweet.

Poison Berry

Dangerous yet sweet, Poison Berry entices you with her cunning ways. Poisoning the young minds of readers, by influencing them to read books on her recommendation. Poison Berry is an  avid reader of all genres but she has her heart set on Science-Fiction. Poison Berry is a peer of mine and is my inspiration for the way I live my life. She radiates with charisma and an intoxicating sense of humor. Living life to the fullest is her ambition and she completes the task well.
Her mysterious identity is being protected by a pseudonym, but her personality cannot be covered up. Recently, Poison Berry was in the classroom and was close to finding out parts of the book, The Gods Themselves. When Poison Berry finds out spoilers of a book she is currently reading or wants to read, you do not want to be around to see her wrath. Poison Berry has many important titles but she takes pride in her V.I.P. status. Contrary to what you may believe, this status stands for Very Important Panda. Her favorite word at the moment is loquacious, and she had no idea what it first meant but it is a word that fits her well.
This blog entry of writing about a friend as a character was just for fun but it opened my eyes to the world of an author. Many fiction authors base their characters off of people they have known in real life. When reading a book, the reader has little to no idea if the character is based off of a friend of theirs. Blogging about a character is hard enough, I can't even imagine writing a whole book. By the way, Poison Berry is......
......Ijeoma! Look at that V.I.P. in action!
